Editorial policy

This page explains where our information comes from, how much we have checked, and how we fix mistakes.

Where the names come from

Our lists combine open datasets of names, official statistics where they exist, and lists we have curated ourselves. A name appearing in a country’s “popular names” list means it is used in that country. It does not by itself tell you its origin or meaning.

How meanings are written

Meanings can differ between languages and sources, and some names have more than one accepted meaning. For a religious or cultural name, please confirm with a family elder, a religious teacher or a native speaker. We are working to check more entries, starting with the most searched names.

Rankings and trends

For rankings such as the most popular names of 2025, we use the published figures of national statistics offices or registries, or reports of them, and we link to the source and name the year on the page. If a country does not publish an official ranking, we do not invent one.

The baby care guide

Our baby care guide is general information for parents and grandparents. It is based on widely used public health guidance, including that of the World Health Organization, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the UK National Health Service, and it is not medical advice. We do not give medicine doses; for doses always follow your doctor’s prescription. If your baby seems unwell, see a doctor. The page was last reviewed on 18 October 2026. It has not been formally reviewed by a named clinician, and we say so on the page.
